Women have a long history in the world of business. Even before the onset of World War Two, women have been inventing products and executing business plans.

Society back then did not appreciate women doing anything outside of the home, and the only time women were given the go-ahead to be entrepreneurs is when their husbands died. Even so, they were only allowed to own brothels, taverns, and alehouses!

Shocking, right?

Thankfully, women’s rights have been integrated into law, and they now have the freedom to run their business however they seem fit — as long as it’s legal, of course. However, there is still a shroud of discrimination that women face daily.

Some women aren’t allowed to access the same type of funding that men are allowed to have — and it’s not because they aren’t qualified. Sometimes it’s for the simple fact that they are women!

While these cases of discrimination might not be as prevalent as they were, the fact that they exists at all is an issue that women have to deal with in some way or the other.

The bright side of this is that many organizations have been formed to help women get ahead in the sphere of entrepreneurship. The following are three ways they can benefit as citizens of Atlanta.

Attend skill workshops

These workshops are designed to help you hone your skills as an entrepreneur. Whether it’s in the area of accounting, marketing, or branding, these workshops will expose you to new skills and new methods of doing business.

Acquire a WBE

The Women’s Business Enterprise certificate gives you a lot of leverage as a woman in business. It is globally accepted and therefore gives you credibility anywhere you decide to set up your business. Getting it in Atlanta is relatively easy, and there are numerous NGO’s that give you a chance to get it.

Networking

Networking remains one of the greatest assets of entrepreneurs. For women, this can be a powerful tool — especially in a city like Atlanta! The key to expanding your business might lie in the new skills you develop over time, but you must connect with like-minded people. They have access to resources that you might need.

The steps discussed have the potential to take you places you’ve never thought possible in business. If you want to have all of these resources under one roof, The Greater Women’s Business Council has it. They’ve recently launched an open for business radio show that will provide you with a wealth of business resources!
