Three Benefits Of Switching Out Your Old Boiler For A High-Efficiency One
As long as you reside in the U.S. or any other country where the climate is temperate, heat is important. Especially during the Fall and Winter when temperatures drop and you enter the fridge and freezer zones, respectively. It is during these times that central heating is the most treasured possession that you can have. One that’s working well is even better!
Now, you probably already know this, but your central heating can work in one of two ways: a furnace or a boiler. Furnaces can be worked manually or using gas and are quite efficient in getting the job done. My personal preference though is the boiler form of heating. Here’s why.
While furnaces work to distribute the heated air throughout the house using ducts, boilers are the ones that heat the water and provide either hot water or steam to heat the house. It’s this versatility in boilers that make them ideal to me. Now, to narrow it down, I’d advise anyone to have their home heated using the hot water boilers as opposed to the steam boilers. Know why?
Well, for one thing, the steam boilers work at a higher temperature than hot water boilers which could cost you your electric bill. While steam passes through pipes to the radiators, the hot water boilers are more versatile. They can distribute hot water via baseboard radiators, radiant floor systems, or even heat the air through a coil.
Another reason why I’d choose hot water over a steam boiler is that steam boilers are inherently less efficient in getting the job done. All this is according to the U.S. national energy office.
Now that we’ve gotten those facts out of the way, let’s look at a class of boilers that is currently trending. Most homes that were made before the 20th century, I’d assume, are equipped with old, low-efficiency boilers. Even those relatively new model homes may be equipped with them. If you’re one of the residents with the old boilers then it’s time to make a switch.
Switch to the more modern, high-efficiency boilers! Trust me when I say, you will be saving yourself a lot of trouble by doing so. You see, high-efficiency boilers come with a lot of benefits. I’ll just be listing three though:
- Reduce fuel costs — High-efficiency boilers are designed to prevent fuel loss. This means that you’ll be spending less money on fuel if you decide to switch.
- Environmentally-friendly — Because of their design and how they work, i.e. using less fuel, you and your family can relax with the knowledge that there would be less pollution in the air. This in turn can reduce cuts to your lifespan which is normally a factor with any form of pollution.
- User-friendly — High-efficiency boilers are easy to operate and can be managed by almost anyone in the family. Not so with those outdated boilers. And because they are easy to operate, you can be certain that there will be a reduction in accidents due to you or a family member not knowing how to work the system. This means that it will last a long time, which further means less money spent on repair and replacements.
So, now you know most of what there is to know about boilers and (I hope) are convinced enough to get a high-efficiency one. There’s the issue, then, of getting one installed in your home.
